The Sunlight Foundation is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that uses civic technology, open data, policy analysis and journalism to make our government and politics more accountable and transparent to all.

Sunlight’s Open Cities team is dedicated to making government data and information accessible for community use at the local level. Access to information is a cornerstone of a thriving democracy, and we believe that now more than ever, communities and cities armed with information can be breeding grounds for positive change.

We are a diverse team, passionate about empowering communities and centering them in Sunlight’s work advocating for open government at all levels.

As a Communications Associate on the Open Cities team, you’d be essential in ensuring that citizens have easy access to the public information they need to take civic action and participate in local decision-making. Your role will include imagining how open data and technology could build more equitable, accessible, and just cities. Day-to-day, you’ll help support our projects with the What Works Cities Initiative and the Open Contracting Partnership, and work toward building a network of people interested in supporting better government transparency for community action.

We are looking for a Communications Associate to be responsible for coordinating our team’s public writing and social media and to contribute directly to our project work with city halls and communities.
If you love writing, researching, and communicating stories about the impact data can have on everyday life, we need you on our team. If you’re passionate about making government work better for communities, we want to hear from you.
