Description

Do you have a superpower that you want use to do good in the world (and not just to “don’t be evil”)?

Nothing makes a bigger impact on the quality of a child’s education than an effective teacher. TeachFX is a startup that superpowers teachers’ work — providing teachers with regular, automated feedback on the dialogue that’s happening in their classrooms.

Using machine learning, our app gives teachers metrics like: what % of class is teacher talk vs. student talk, how well each individual student is participating, whether the teacher is asking open-ended or closed questions, whether unconscious biases may be surfacing in the classroom, and more.

I’m Jamie Poskin, the founder of TeachFX, and I’m a former high school teacher and tech entrepreneur who recently completed his MA in Education and MBA at Stanford. I also spent 7 years working as an experimental theater artist with The Wooster Group and my own company.

My partner is Berk Coker, a Stanford BS/MS in Computer Science with a focus in machine learning. Berk has served as a Teaching Assistant for Stanford’s advanced level natural language processing courses, working with folks like Chris Piech and Daniel Jurafsky.

We are Entrepreneurs-In-Residence at Reach Capital and are also part of Pear VC’s Launchpad program. This summer we raised a $320K pre-seed round and we’ve developed some key partnerships to scale rapidly this fall — which is why we need you!

TeachFX hiring for 3 engineering positions: a Front-End Engineer, a Full Stack Engineer, and a Machine Learning Engineer.

Skills and responsibilities

We’re looking for engineers to join our team who want to support our mission and are passionate about using tech for good! Our team now is small (3 people), so we hope the 3 new engineers who join us will be key leaders of our company as we scale. Because we are an early-stage startup, the ability to be flexible, to embrace ambiguity, and to thrive outside of hierarchies is very important.

Some other traits we’re looking for in our new teammates include: great communicator, open to growth, intellectually curious, creative, trustworthy, relationship builder, aspiring leader, striving for excellence in all things, and committed to making the world a better place.
