The Boston Area Research Initiative (BARI), a center based in the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs, convenes researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and community leaders to envision and realize the future of the city, with a focus on how data and technology can enhance equity, justice, and democracy.

We seek a Program Assistant to manage the administration of BARI’s outward-facing programs and communications, as well as day-to-day operations of the center. This will include the promotion of BARI’s work via social media channels, the organization of events--most notably BARI’s annual conference and series of community based-trainings--contributing to fundraising efforts, and coordinating BARI’s seed grant program. This position will operate at the intersection of universities, public officials, and other community leaders with the goal of maintaining and building the partnerships that are central to BARI’s programs. Applicants should have a considerable interest in urban policy and a general understanding of the impact modern digital data and technology can have on both science and policy.

Minimum qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in policy, sociology, or economics with an urban focus, or related degree a plus. Three to five years collective professional experience. The ideal candidate must be able to handle complexity in a fast-paced environment. He/she must possess excellent writing, organizational and interpersonal skills; strong initiative; ability to think creatively and work under deadlines.
