Description

Upsolve is America's largest bankruptcy nonprofit dedicated to helping low-income families file bankruptcy for free. To date, we've relieved over $200 million in debt. In the coming months, we aim to explore other areas of the law where we can help low-income consumers access their legal rights to overcome debt and predatory debt collectors.  

Our funders include Eric Schmidt, Y Combinator, the Legal Services Corporation, the Robin Hood Foundation, Chris Sacca, Vinod Khosla, and Jim Breyer. 

We currently have two engineers. You will be joining us as our third engineer, working directly with our CTO. We currently have 8 team members. Some recent accomplishments:

You will help Upsolve continue to scale its core self-service bankruptcy product. You will also help Upsolve launch new products to help consumers access their legal rights. Potential areas include helping users navigate student loan debt, debt collection, and creditor harassment. 

Skills and responsibilities

  • Building features to reduce friction in our core self-service bankruptcy tool
  • Launching programatically-generated landing pages to attract website visitors 
  • Scoping out, launching, and iterating tools to help consumers sue creditors when they're the victims of illegal debt collection or unfair credit reporting
  • Launching a tool to help consumers respond to debt collection lawsuits when they've been sued by debt collectors
  • Helping consumers challenge their student loan debt or understand the right loan forgiveness programs

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • 3+ years of product Javascript experience 
  • Full-stack. You can move fluidly between frontends, backends, and DevOps to ensure the greatest experience is delivered and supported
  • You have a strong focus on social impact
  • An incredibly high bar for the velocity of shipping and the quality of your work


Preferred qualifications

  • Professional experience with NodeJS, React, and Postgres
  • Experience with cloud service providers like AWS
