The Strategic Initiatives Team leads long-term planning with the City Manager's Office. We leverage data and performance measures to guide operations. The ideal candidate will be highly knowledgeable about data and measuring aspects of operational functions, user experiences, community impact and desired outcomes. They will have familiarity with database and information system technologies and be proficient in MS Office Suite programs. Experience with FME, Python, Tableau and other related applications is preferred.

Some of the responsibilities include:
  • Oversee the City of Gainesville's openData portal and work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure data accuracy and integrity, as well as collaborate with community partners. 
  • Utilize the City's openData platform to create effective monitoring and reporting systems that tie into organizational decision-making. 
  • Oversee the data governance team at the City of Gainesville and work to establish appropriate rules and procedures for effective data management.

Skills and responsibilities

Builds, manages, and directs the City of Gainesville's performance measurement program and systems.

Serves as a resource to city departments in developing, reporting, and utilizing metrics.

Demonstrates the ability to present complex information related to data, performance and evaluation to diverse audiences and stakeholders.

Coordinates with external stakeholdes to evaluate the city's impact within the broader community.

Integrates user-experience data into traditional, quantitative metrics for evaluation and insight development.

Utilizes the city's open government platform to create effective monitoring and reporting systems that tie in to organizational decision-making (e.g., budgetary, operational, strategic and otherwise).

Maintains and collaborates on designing the technology platform to allow for the effective monitoring of key performance indicators.

Ensures the regular collection of data and subsequent reporting of data for the city within the organization and to external stakeholders.

Sets critical targets and appropriate benchmarks based upon research of high-performing public and private entities.

Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.

Minimum qualifications

To be considered for this position you must: have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business management, public administration, finance, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or a related field; and two (2) years of experience in utilizing data for operational or financial analysis, or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.


Preferred qualifications

A Master's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred and may substitute for one (1) year of the non-supervisory work experience.
Experience in a government environment is preferred, though not required.
