Description

There’s an abundance of valuable public data out there, but it’s buried in siloed, balkanized government databases where it lies largely unusable. Vigilant is a platform for public records data search and monitoring. We unlock that information, make it actionable, and help our customers leverage it to make critical decisions.

Our customers span financial services, politics, public affairs, and media. Our product suite includes a universal search layer for public data and sophisticated monitoring systems.

Our team is a mix of engineers, open data geeks, and political researchers. We’re looking for candidates comfortable in a high-growth, fast-paced environment. We value tenacity, a commitment to learning, collaboration and direct communication, diverse opinions, and a deep-seated belief in the power of data to inform and improve how things get done.

About you:

You’re someone who loves to learn and constantly improve at what you do. We’re looking for a team member who’s excited about making public data more accessible. We hope you’re curious, tenacious, and that you want to work hard with our team on difficult, important problems.

About the role:

This isn’t an entry level job – we’re expecting that you’ll come at it having done research, data analysis, reporting, or a similar analytical function for 2+ years. You need to have experience digging into and understanding public records data. And we want you to use those skills to help us build the best platform for public data access.

- You'll manage our data sourcing pipeline and process, working with our development team to integrate additional data sources

- You'll maintain and improve our high standards for data accuracy, leading our data testing, and validation

- You'll identify opportunities to automate tasks and processes in data quality testing and analysis, and design relevant solutions

- You'll lead our data sourcing efforts, identifying and prioritizing new data sources to add to our coverage and expanding the range of public data we integrate

- Work alongside product team to develop data elements of products leveraging public data

- You'll leverage our wide range of data access to produce insight and reports that highlight the value of the data we monitor and aggregate

We’re looking for a team member with:

Expert-level skills with Excel and data analysis and manipulation. Bonus if you have experience with R, Python, SQL, Elasticsearch, JSON, or Kibana.

A passion for public records and open data, and the ways technology can be leveraged to support transparency, and a high degree of familiarity with and context for these sorts of data sets.

Hustle -- you're just the kind of person who figures out a way to get things done, and you're willing to do whatever it takes

You love collaborating on a team, and you communicate clearly. You're comfortable voicing and discussing disagreements.

Strong writing skills for communicating effectively cross different types of content (reports, training materials, blogs, etc.)
